The Associazione Culturale Italo-Britannica was founded in 1956 from
an idea of a well-known English teacher -Egle Parra- supported by
scholars and lovers of English culture. As a cultural non-profit
association its main aim was the promotion of cultural relations between
Italy and Britain. After a while the Associazione closed its centre and
gave up its activities for a few years to be officially refounded in February
1982 aiming to promote English culture at large and continuing to work
on both the educational and cultural front.
Year after year English courses at different levels have been organized,
as well as refresher courses for teachers, public lectures, scholarships,
cultural trips and stays, exhibitions and concerts, always in collaboration
with local authorities and cultural institutions.
Worth remembering the introduction of the English language in 19
nursery schools from 1986 to 1993, the role of Italo-Britannica in working
out the twinning agreement between Chichester and Ravenna ( the
Deed was signed on 4th December 1996), the exhibition “Le cattedrali
gotiche del Regno Unito” in the Council Chamber of the Town hall, films
in English at Palazzo Corradini, theatricals such as J.Swift’s 250
Anniversary with Scuola Media Guido Novello, high-level lectures held
by Prof. Alessandro Serpieri, Prof. Sergio Perosa, Prof. Diego Saglia,
Jeremy Barnard, E.Pound’s daughter Mary de Rachewiltz and the
well-known journalist and writer Antonio Caprarica.
